  • Zaxbys, a Georgia-based restaurant known for its Chicken Fingerz, announced plans to expand to the Quad Cities and is now seeking franchise partners for its first Iowa location—finalizing agreements may take 3 to 5 months with a store opening expected 12 to 15 months later.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, Richard Dean took the stand and refused to answer cross-examination questions in the double-murder trial of a Davenport man accused of involvement in the 2024 killings of Brian Goodwin and Amy Smith.  The Dispatch Argus

EDUCATION NEWS

  • IHMVCU awarded a share of $31,500 in scholarships to 13 local students through its 2025 Cash for Class Scholarship program—recognizing both classroom excellence and community service. The awards range from $1,000 for vocational students to $10,000 for those headed to college.  OurQuadCities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Scott County Auditor Kerri Tompkins announced that the Candidate Guide for this fall's City-School Election is available online and urged candidates to submit their completed packets early to the designated clerks—School Secretaries or City Clerks—as the Auditor’s Office does not accept them. The regular filing period runs from Aug. 25 through Sept. 18 while Davenport candidates must file from Aug. 11 through Aug. 28.  OurQuadCities

HEALTH NEWS

  • Iowa health advocates from Iowa Common Good and Vera French warned on a virtual press call that proposed Medicaid changes may cut coverage for nearly 270,000 rural residents—new rules would require 80 hours of work per month and more frequent eligibility checks. Lawmakers plan to send a bill to the president by July 4 that could force rural hospitals to lose critical funding while adding new challenges to mental health services.  The Dispatch Argus
