  • An owner in Davenport called the Humane Society of Scott County when seven cats multiplied into 70, and the shelter brought in 40 while planning to collect 30 more soon—its trained team is adapting to the unexpected challenge.  KWQC
  • QCAIR, a nonprofit founded in 2012, serves immigrant and refugee families by offering programs that help them access public benefits, citizenship support, and translation services & organizes community events such as the QC World Cup Soccer Tournament on Aug. 2 and Harmony Fest Multicultural Festival on Aug. 17 to promote inclusion. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A semitruck flipped on John Deere Road near 16th Street and spilled diesel fuel, which closed part of the road while police blocked traffic and hazmat teams worked on cleanup (near Walmart at 41st Street).  KWQC

CRIME NEWS

  • Davenport police identified 23-year-old Deonte Anderson as a suspect wanted for willful injury in a June 9 skate park attack where a homeless man suffered severe fractures and brain injuries—leaving him unable to speak.  KWQC
  • A state criminalist told jurors Wednesday — in a case involving a 2024 Davenport double homicide — that the guns recovered after Devon Braet’s arrest were not conclusively matched to the crime.  The Quad City Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Davenport Community School District announced on June 23 that Alec Clark is set to become principal of Truman Elementary for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year pending board approval. He most recently served as principal at Edward Stone Middle School in Burlington and worked in various roles in Burlington and Bettendorf districts.  Quad Cities Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • LifeServe Blood Center and MercyOne Genesis Davenport Medical Center have scheduled two blood drives in July for the Davenport community—one on July 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the hospital lobby on E. Rusholme St. and another on July 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The River’s Edge Conference Room on West River Drive. Registered donors at the first drive will be entered to win a portable pizza oven.  OurQuadCities

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Quad City Area REALTORS earned a $15,000 AARP Community Challenge grant on June 24 to design a contest for accessory dwelling units. The contest will display the top 10 designs to the public — with cash prizes to reward winning entries.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Racing will take place Saturday, June 28 at Viola Boyz Backroad Speedway as more than 60 cars compete in multiple classes during the Midwest Figure 8 Points Series dirt races + food will be available at Hannah’s Snack Shack while gates open at 3 p.m. with grandstand admission at $15 and driver entry at $50 including a pit pass.  OurQuadCities
