- ➤ UnityPoint Health is hosting a two-day event for local veterans to access benefits, healthcare — and counseling. The one-stop shop is running today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Black Hawk College and serves over 20,000 veterans in the area. KWQC

- ➤ On June 26, Interstate Power Systems hosted an open house at its facility at 8200 N. Fairmount St. in Davenport where Phillip Wiginton explained that every truck bay is normally full of trucks needing repairs+ the event gave local visitors a rare look at the company’s busy operations. - ➤ Lee Enterprises, an Iowa-based newspaper company, agreed to pay $9.5 million to settle privacy claims by subscribers and faces three new class-action lawsuits from employees who say weak data security let hackers access personal information on June 3 — claims that call for better cyber safeguards — in a case filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. - ➤ Royal Neighbors of America in Rock Island awarded college scholarships to four Quad Cities students on June 26. Gerald Callahan of Bettendorf will attend the University of St. Thomas, Clayton Matkovic of Sherrard will attend Monmouth College, Emma Pearson of Davenport will study at the University of Iowa, and Lauryn VanWinkle of Viola will attend Eastern Kentucky University. - ➤ On Friday, nature lovers learned about wildlife at Hauberg Estate in Rock Island during the Back Yard Bio Blitz led by Colin Shirk of Nahant Marsh; participants saw plants, birds, and a bull snake exhibit. - ➤ Davenport homeowners face higher insurance premiums as costs have risen each year due to building inflation, increased labor expenses, and storm damage claims; Nelson Brothers Agency owner Matt Fensterbusch said rates have jumped (25%-100% increases) and that reinsurance struggles force companies to offset losses while recommending regular home maintenance.
