- ➤ The third annual Queen Edna Colon Cancer Awareness Walk was held Saturday morning at Vander Veer Park to honor Queen Edna Maid-Tyson, who battled colon cancer for two and a half years before she died in April. - ➤ Federal budget cuts forced MercyOne and other hospitals to cancel subsidized breast and cervical cancer screenings from July and halted grant awards for the Iowa Cancer Consortium — local groups like Cancer Support Community Iowa & NW Illinois are now seeking outside funding as cancer rates continue to rise. The funding freeze comes amid uncertainty from federal budget cuts that have also affected anti-tobacco efforts, leaving the fight against cancer in Iowa with fewer resources. The Dispatch Argus
