  • On July 3, veterans and their families will visit Voy 61 Drive-in Theatre where Top Gun: Maverick will be shown at 9 p.m.—gates open at 6:30 p.m. Veterans will receive free popcorn and soda and be entered into a raffle sponsored by the theatre and Jackson County Veterans Affairs.  OurQuadCities

CRIME NEWS

  • Davenport police said 23-year-old Darryl Shears fled a traffic stop on the Rock Island Arsenal Bridge early Sunday morning and jumped into the Mississippi River before emergency crews rescued him from roller dam machinery—he is charged with multiple offenses and held in Scott County Jail.  KWQC
  • Jeremy Begle was in bed in his Davenport home Saturday night when gunfire caused a bullet fragment to hit his window frame—damaging nearby vehicles including Bruce Goacher’s trucks—and police later reviewed his doorbell footage, with reports that older teenagers were involved and at least one suspect was released on bond.  OurQuadCities
  • A man fleeing a traffic stop jumped off a bridge into the Mississippi River in Davenport early Sunday morning — police later arrested him.  The Dispatch Argus

CULTURE NEWS

  • Alternating Currents returns from August 14 to 17, transforming downtown Davenport into a multi-venue celebration of music, comedy, film and art. The festival features mostly free comedy shows (including touring comics, Midwest favorites, and a new pop-up comedy club at The Phoenix Restaurant & Martini Bar) and is curated by local comedian Chris Schlichting.  OurQuadCities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting July 1, Iowa will enforce a new hands-free law that bans the use of phones or other devices while driving—aimed at reducing distracted driving risks. Bettendorf Police Captain Andrew Champion said the law’s revised language will improve enforcement, and police will give warnings until the new year before issuing tickets.  OurQuadCities
