- ➤ On Sunday, July 13, the Quad Cities Bicycle Club will host its Christmas in July Bike Tour starting at noon at Front Street Brewery’s taproom on Davenport’s riverfront, with the 10-mile ride expected to finish at 4 p.m. A $10 fee will support Bikes For Tykes—an initiative that provides bicycles and accessories to children in need. - ➤ Teens affected by cancer can join a free support group hosted by Cancer Support Community Iowa and NW Illinois at Gilda's Club Davenport (1351 West Central Park Avenue, Suite 200) on Thursday, July 10th from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The meeting offers a safe space to share feelings, learn coping skills through art and games, and enjoy snacks, and it is sponsored by the Davenport QC Morning Optimist Club with limited spaces requiring registration. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Davenport man, 23-year-old Melech Johnson, was arrested and is held in Scott County Jail on a $75,000 cash-only bond after police saw him place a bag containing a loaded 9mm and controlled substances into an SUV near Emerald Drive on July 2—he faces charges of felony controlled substance violation, driving while suspended, felon in possession of a firearm, probation violation and several misdemeanor traffic offenses. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis showed that Iowa’s GDP shrank 6.1% in the first quarter—the worst drop nationally, tied only with Nebraska—due in part to an aging workforce and slow population growth. Governor Kim Reynolds and economic experts said agricultural challenges and trade policies also contributed to the state’s slower growth compared to its neighbors. The Quad City Times

- ➤ LULAC Council 10 announced that 32 students living within a 50-mile radius of the Quad Cities will receive scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 each to help with college costs—students will be honored at a scholarship banquet on Sunday, July 27 at the LULAC Center in Davenport.
