COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lily is an eight week old domestic short hair kitten at Rock Island County Animal Care & Control Shelter and is ready for adoption & the shelter is running a Pay What THEY Weigh special for all animals except kittens and puppies while also seeking volunteers who complete its training program.  KWQC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2025 Alternating Currents festival schedule is now live on the free app and website and lists over 200 shows in music, comedy, film and art from August 14 to 17 in Downtown Davenport—pop-up events are planned in Rock Island and Bettendorf. Festival Director Alisha Espey said more events like Q&A sessions and family shows will be added soon.  OurQuadCities

EDUCATION NEWS

  • QC Electrical Training Center (1700 52nd Ave., Suite C) in Moline is hosting the free Heavy Metal Summer Experience camp from July 7 to July 10, where 12 local high school students work on real electrical projects to learn trade skills; a graduation ceremony is set for 1 p.m. on July 11.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • Project NOW Head Start managers in the Quad Cities say federal spending cuts will lower funding for early education programs that help low income families who rely on Medicaid and SNAP. The organization is working with local nonprofits and cities— including grocery stores— to make new plans to keep families in the program.  OurQuadCities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • KWQC has posted a list of traffic alerts for Iowa and Illinois that drivers should note as projects continue. In Davenport, lane reductions on E 53rd Street and Elmore Avenue and one-lane traffic on the East Locust bridge — due to repairs and resurfacing work — may slow traffic until these projects are completed.  KWQC
  • Dozens of protesters gathered in front of Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Sen. Joni Ernst's offices in Davenport yesterday morning to deliver petition signatures against cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in the One Big Beautiful Bill — Illinois State Senator Mike Halpin and Rep.
