COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Last night’s strong storms caused damage in Davenport—trees fell on Emerald Drive and Pioneer Court and the local golf course closed due to downed trees. Power outages dropped from about 10,000 to roughly 1,000, and resident Ted Peterson said he went to his basement as debris fell.  OurQuadCities

CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies took into custody an 18 year old and two juveniles after a stolen Toyota Camry sped through Davenport early this morning, running red lights and striking a Ford near 42nd Street and Welcome Way—leaving one teen hospitalized in critical condition.  KWQC
  • A juvenile stole a vehicle and crashed into the back of another car while fleeing Scott County Sheriff's deputies early Saturday and is now in critical condition.  The Quad City Times
  • Three people were taken into custody after an early morning vehicle chase ended at 42nd Street and Welcome Way in Davenport—two suspects were injured and an uninvolved vehicle was damaged.  KWQC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologists with the NWS confirmed an EF—2 tornado with 120 mph winds struck Camping World on the NW side of Davenport Friday night. The tornado stayed on the ground for over 7 miles in 10 minutes and reached up to 500 yards wide before also damaging Emeis Park.  OurQuadCities
  • Ronald Rayls in Davenport suffered major storm damage Friday when a large tree crashed onto his home nearly in the same spot as last year's derecho, damaging his roof, gutters, furnace vent and electrical lines. His wife urged caution due to flash flooding (ambulance services were delayed) while crews continue to assess damage in the neighborhood.  KWQC

  • The Scott County Emergency Management Commission declared a state of emergency after severe storms on July 11 and damage assessment teams have been checking properties while officials warn residents to avoid high water on creeks, streams and rivers—cleanup kits were offered yesterday at the Salvation Army in Moline and will be available in both Moline and Davenport starting July 14.  OurQuadCities
