COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Thirteen food trucks competed in the returning Food Truck Fight where families enjoyed live music + voted for their favorite cuisine, with Hibachi Time winning for the second year in a row. Organizers said the event featured new cuisines and strong community support.  KWQC

CRIME NEWS

  • A Davenport man, Patrick S. Holman Jr., was arrested on drug charges after two nonfatal overdoses led police to find over two grams of suspected fentanyl + marijuana and two loaded handguns at an apartment and in his vehicle, and he now faces 12 charges with his next court date set for July 31.  The Quad City Times
  • Dominic Tangen from Black Hawk County filed a civil lawsuit alleging that on July 12 in Bremer County, trooper Bryce Bilharz bullied him during a traffic stop and carried out an unlawful search and false arrest—despite tests showing zero alcohol—with claims that Bilharz has a history of similar conduct.  KWQC
  • A Davenport man, Bryan Wayne, 47, was sentenced on July 17 to three years probation after pleading guilty to charges of possessing a stolen gun by a felon and intent to deliver less than five grams of meth—he was arrested in January during a drug and gun investigation.  OurQuadCities

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Eastern Iowa Community Colleges launched a Workforce Development and Training Survey on July 17 to ask local employers about their current and future training needs for industries like manufacturing and healthcare (the survey is open until Aug. 22). The college will use the feedback to shape new training programs and strengthen local business partnerships.  Quad Cities Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Administrator Doug Maxeiner said he will resign on October 1 because of health issues. He will work for 11 more weeks to help hire a new fire chief and IT director — city leaders will soon plan interim leadership and begin the search for his replacement — after 32 years in local government.  OurQuadCities

  • Organizers held a press conference at 10 a.m. Monday at MLK Park in Davenport where Race Director Michelle Juehring unveiled the highlights for the 51st Bix 7 race week+ thousands of runners and walkers are preparing to compete in the event.  KWQC
