COMMUNITY NEWS

  • QC Freedom Crawlers will team up with Quad City Animal Welfare Center to fill the jeeps with needed supplies from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Farm & Fleet (5900 John Deere Road, Moline). Volunteers under a tent at the entrance will share shelter information and hand out wish lists for donations.  OurQuadCities

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A RAGBRAI rider died Monday during the ride and RAGBRAI director Anne Lawrie said investigators from the Iowa State Patrol and Minnesota State Patrol have been contacted though no additional details are available.  KWQC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Hoffmann Family of Companies, a Florida-based equity firm, has submitted a letter to support recapitalizing Davenport’s Lee Enterprises by proposing a $25 million investment in common equity and a matching $25 million rights offering — the firm now owns a 9.7% stake and is the second largest shareholder behind Quint Digital Limited.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bix Jazz Society will present the Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Festival from July 31 to Aug. 2 at the Rhythm City Casino Event Center in Davenport — the schedule includes a free Putnam Museum concert on July 31, a lunch cruise on Aug. 1, a graveside jazz concert at Oakdale Memorial Gardens on Aug. 2, and a free jazz show at Sound Conservatory in Moline on Aug. 3.  OurQuadCities

  • The IowaWORKS Quad Cities Success Fair will be held on Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at NorthPark Mall—job seekers, veterans, and transitioning soldiers can get help with resume building, mock interviews, and other employment services.  KWQC

  • Health experts warn that tick activity is rising as summer peaks and advise Davenport residents to wear long sleeves, tuck in long pants, and use EPA-approved repellents containing DEET. They recommend checking the body daily for ticks — especially behind the ears, around the waist, and behind the knees — and seeking prompt care if a red bull’s-eye rash develops.  KWQC
