GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Davenport fired its IT director, Cory Smith, on June 5 after he accessed the city’s internal camera network in late March without permission or a legitimate business purpose. He tried to cover his actions by lying to a city administrator and wiping his city-owned iPhone, and an interim director now fills his role. KWQC
- ➤ This week marks 35 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed—its law bans discrimination in employment, government services, and public accommodations. Laura Jardine from Empowering Abilities in Davenport said the law has long helped people live with dignity and independence. KWQC
- ➤ Rock Island aldermen voted on Monday to delay a plan for a four-month halt on new facilities for the underprivileged after community members raised safety and neighborhood concerns—city staff will work on new rules before discussing the matter again on Aug. 25. The Quad City Times
- ➤ City officials fired Davenport's former IT director after he allegedly accessed the camera system without a valid business purpose, according to a redacted letter released Monday. The Quad City Times
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Midwest Real Estate Data signed a deal with the Quad City Area Realtors association in early July to give its 1,000 realtor members new tools and access to an expanded MLS network — including Paragon, connectMLS, and Zenlist — and QCAR and MRED will finish integrating the system by year end.
