COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rico and Stella the sloths will be at the Mississippi Valley Fair in the Iowa Building from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Visitors can pet the sloths for $10 (they cannot be held due to their age).  KWQC
  • Freight House Farmers Market is asking supporters to vote in the 17th annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration by American Farmland Trust from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30—prizes range from $2,500 for first place to $875 for tenth—and help the market claim its top spot in Iowa for the fifth time. The contest awards funds for marketing and communications that will boost local farmers and small businesses.  OurQuadCities

  • Honkamp was named 101st on the 2025 Top 200 Firms list by INSIDE Public Accounting on July 30 based on net revenue, rising from 108th in 2024, and was also named one of the fastest-growing firms. The firm has more than 300 workers and an office in Davenport and was named a Top 10 Midwest CPA firm by Accounting Today.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A man from Davenport, identified as 38-year-old Matthew Welch, was arrested on multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted several police officers during a domestic disturbance on the 800 block of S. Elise Avenue on July 31 at about 6:05 p.m.—he reportedly threatened a resident and during the altercation spat near officers and kicked one in the face—he is now in Scott County Jail on a $30,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for August 8.  OurQuadCities

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bank of America, Merrill, and Bank of America Private Bank cardholders can get free entry to the Figge Art Museum in Davenport and the Science Center of Iowa in Des Moines this weekend—today and Sunday—as part of the Museums on Us program. Cardholders must show a valid card and photo ID, and the offer does not cover guests, special events, or ticketed shows.  Quad Cities Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Davenport Community School District teams with the Davenport Fire Department to launch its annual school supply drive running today through Friday, aiming to provide essential supplies for students. Donations of backpacks, notebooks, pencils and more can be dropped off at any Davenport Fire Station between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.  KWQC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assistant Chief Major Jamie Brown is retiring from the Davenport Police Department after 30 years of service. He started working in 1995 and earned a 30-year Good Conduct bar—showing his dedication that has left a strong mark on the department.  KWQC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Quad City Steamwheelers will host the Jacksonville Sharks today at Vibrant Arena in their first playoff game since 2007. Owner Doug Bland previewed the matchup and said he expects the team to put on a strong performance.  KWQC
