ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A motorcycle and SUV crashed on Sunday afternoon on the 1600 block of West 8th Street near Madison Street, killing a 49-year-old rider and injuring a 19-year-old driver who was treated at a hospital. KWQC
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Davenport police formed a crime analysis unit in 2021 to review shooting patterns and map small areas where nearly half of recent shootings happened. The team uses data to help officers target high-risk times and places—cutting down on redundant work. The Dispatch Argus
- ➤ An 18-year-old from Davenport faces animal torture charges after a video showed him throwing a bag of four kittens into a tree on July 19—three kittens died and the only surviving orange kitten remains in foster care while his arraignment is set for Aug. 14. OurQuadCities
- ➤ A 21-year-old man from Durant is charged with assault after he drove his car toward two pedestrians on the 2600 block of East 35th Street in Davenport—one person suffered serious ankle injuries while the other had minor injuries—and court records show he is free on a $14,000 bond. KWQC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Iowa schools in the Quad-Cities start on August 25 due to a law that requires classes to begin after August 23, while Illinois schools in the area open as early as August 5 and August 7.
