- ➤ River Benders Cycling Group hosted its 10th annual Let’s Glow Ride on Saturday night when over 60 riders decorated their bikes with glow sticks and lights on a 12-mile loop and stopped for food and drinks. The event emphasized socializing and fun — not speed or distance — as it marked another year of a local cycling tradition. KWQC
- ➤ Argrow’s House launched its Back-to-School Period Drive Saturday morning to collect tampons and pads for women and girls facing financial hardship—donations will be accepted at the House Cafe every Wednesday through Friday from 9am to 2pm until August 16. KWQC
- ➤ Sunday, August 3 marked the start of the National Coalition for Safer Roads Stop on Red week to raise awareness of stoplight intersection safety. The group stated that red light deaths increased 49% since 2019 and that many victims were passengers, pedestrians or bicyclists—emphasizing the campaign's focus on safer intersections. KWQC
- ➤ YMCA officials said The Landing is closed until further notice after staff found broken glass in the pool from a broken beer bottle near the diving board. - ➤ HNI Corp said on August 4 that it will buy Steelcase in a $2.2B deal that uses cash and stock to merge two top workplace furniture makers. Steelcase shareholders will get $7.20 in cash and 0.2192 HNI shares per share and the combined firm will be led by HNI CEO Jeffrey Lorenger with centers in Muscatine and Grand Rapids — the deal will close by the end of 2025 after approvals.
