ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • John C. Coons, a 49-year-old Davenport resident, died Sunday when his motorcycle was struck by an SUV at the Madison Street intersection— the SUV driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and police are investigating the crash.  KWQC
  • Residents escaped a fire on Tuesday evening in a Davenport home on the 800 block of East Rusholme Street—no injuries were reported.  The Quad City Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Three Iowa Quad Cities projects received over $2.2 million in SBA loans in July to boost local growth and create new jobs. The funds will help Murphy Court LLC in DeWitt create 18 jobs, Akshay Patel Corporation in Davenport add two new jobs and retain seven, and Midwest Iron Addicts in Walcott create two jobs — supporting a range of local businesses.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A Davenport man, 53-year-old Charles R. Lovedy, is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, continuous sexual abuse of a child, and child endangerment after he allegedly abused someone at least once per week over several years — investigators found photos of the incidents and a preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 15 with a $150,000 cash-only bond.  KWQC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Disney On Ice will bring Mickey’s Search Party to the Vibrant Arena at the Mark in Moline from Dec. 4 to 7. The show will feature Mickey Mouse and friends on a quest to find Tinker Bell with acrobatic stunts + immersive technology while families enjoy interactive pre-show experiences and family-friendly ticket options.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Davenport 7th Ward Alderman Mhisho Lynch said she will not run for re-election in the November city council race & shared that her explanation is on Facebook. Candidate filings begin Aug. 11 & close at 5 p.m. on Aug. 28.  KWQC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local pediatricians warn that hand, foot and mouth disease is rising this summer, especially among young children in daycare and preschool settings—symptoms include low energy, rash, and mouth sores, and doctors advise parents to keep children hydrated and practice good hand washing to prevent spread.  KWQC

  • The Quad City Steamwheelers will face the Green Bay Blizzard on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. for the Eastern Conference title game—Coach Cory Ross said the team will focus on limiting mistakes to secure a championship spot after a season of hard work.  KWQC
