GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Scott County Supervisors will vote today on a five-year $2.77 million contract with FBG Facility Services to take over custodial tasks in an effort to save money, while county employees worry that outsourcing will hurt their job security. FBG will retain current staff at the same wages if they pass the onboarding process — a plan prompted by ongoing challenges in staffing county facilities.  The Dispatch Argus
  • The Davenport City Council voted 7-3 to remove 7th Ward alderman Derek Cornette after evidence showed he attended meetings intoxicated and repeatedly addressed female employees inappropriately. Cornette plans to run for reelection while his attorney argued that he was not given enough time to build a defense (the council said it was their duty to protect employees).  The Quad City Times
  • Scott County is housing over 70 inmates in jails outside the county, which drives high transport costs as Sheriff Tim Lane said five to six vehicles cover 1,000 miles per day today. The county jail holds 394 inmates but overcrowding starts above 300, a problem worsened by delays in convictions and a lack of state prison expansion (burdening taxpayers).  KWQC
  • Scott County supervisors will vote today on a five-year -2.77 million contract with FBG Facility Services to outsource custodial services for county buildings, roads, and emergency sites - a move set to save about $150,000 to $200,000 each year that has raised concerns among current employees.
