- ➤ Rhea Sherman—known as a motorcycle mama who rode bikes in the 1950s—turned 101 yesterday in Eldridge with her family while they celebrated her long life of breaking barriers. The Quad City Times
- ➤ Pam Langfitt of Camanche rappelled down 11 stories — 140 feet — on the north side of Hotel Blackhawk on Saturday, Aug 23 during the Over the Edge fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley. About 110 local residents took part and raised $184,000 for the charity. Quad Cities Business Journal
- ➤ Jackson, a blind dog at the Humane Society of Scott County, arrived two months ago as a stray and needs a special owner for her care—Jo Nicholson said she is ready for a loving home. The society will host Pups and Pints on Aug. 31 at Pour Bros in Moline to encourage pet adoption. KWQC
- ➤ On Tuesday at All Saints Catholic School, two brothers were surprised with a plaque honoring their father, Army Maj. Richard D. Zubeck, who died in 2019 after battling PTSD. Their mother, school officials, and Til Valhalla Project members helped create the tribute to keep his memory alive. KWQC
- ➤ The Doris & Victor Day Foundation awarded $800K in grants to 58 nonprofits in the Quad Cities to support programs in human services, arts, youth, education and health with a focus on helping Rock Island. The foundation received 96 applications for $1.4M in total requests and made these awards to enhance community services. Quad Cities Business Journal

- ➤ Elite Casino Resorts signed an agreement Tuesday to purchase Burlington’s Catfish Bend Casino and FunCity Resort, including all assets and operations of Great River Entertainment to bring the properties back under the Kehl family’s legacy in Southeast Iowa. The company said current employees will remain in their roles while it plans to invest in the resort to boost tourism and economic growth in the region — expanding its portfolio that already includes casinos in Riverside, Davenport and Larchwood. - ➤ Jamison Fisher, 50, charged in the death of Trudy Appleby, told a magistrate on Tuesday he does not want to waive extradition to Illinois while he remains in Scott County Jail for an unrelated drug case—magistrate ordered his custody for 30 days and a hearing has yet to be scheduled. KWQC
