EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Marching Avenir Highsteppers practiced on Tuesday, August 12 in Davenport and welcomed kids aged 9 to 19 who learned marching drills and techniques under director Kevin Johnson. The team will perform its first show on October 22 and is seeking drummers, tumblers, and pom pom dancers — it also needs donations for uniforms and gear.  The Dispatch Argus
  • Horizon Science Academy, the first charter school in the Quad-Cities, started its school year this past Monday in Davenport and now serves over 200 K-6 students with a STEM focus — local and state leaders including Lt. Gov. Chris Cournoyer joined Principal Shawn Buettner in a ribbon-cutting ceremony as the school opened in a building leased from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.  The Quad City Times
