- ➤ Lysa Hegland became president of Junior Achievement of the Heartlands and is building new partnerships to help students learn useful career skills across eastern Iowa and western Illinois. The nonprofit recently turned an old Sam Club warehouse into BizTown—an interactive space for hands-on learning—and plans to add more innovative programs. The Quad City Times

- ➤ Candidates for Davenport City Council and mayor met the filing deadline at 5 p.m. Thursday, and four offices will see a primary on Oct. 7. Incumbent Mayor Mike Matson is not running for reelection — voters will choose finalists for the Nov. 4 city/school election. The Quad City Times
- ➤ Davenport’s Committee of the Whole will meet Wednesday evening to review a resolution on a possible five-year lease of the Freight House to BZE Holdings—owner of Boozie’s Bar and Grille, which had to leave its former location due to emergency repairs—and to hold a public hearing on a campus land use plan requested by St. Ambrose University that could lead to changes like a new academic building north of McMullen Hall.
