WQPT PBS launched its Keep WQPT Strong: Community Focus-Community Funded Campaign on Wed, Sept.
2 to ask the Quad Cities community for support in raising about $1.3 million a year for free educational programming for more than 824,000 viewers and to celebrate 43 years of service.
Davenport Parks and Recreation has launched fall Recess in the Parks, inviting kids to enjoy themed activities in four parks every Monday through Thursday from Sept.
8 to Nov. 5 (weather permitting).
🎓 Education
Davenport and Rock Island schools are monitoring wet bulb readings every hour to protect student athletes during the heat wave by shifting practice times and preparing cold water immersion tubs.
Adjustments include moving games and halting outdoor activities if readings hit dangerous levels — ensuring safety for all participants.
🏈 Sports
The Iowa Hawkeyes will begin their football season tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. with a home game against the Northern Illinois Huskies.
Honorary captain Sedrick Shaw will be on hand, and organizers will distribute 4,000 refillable water bottles (and set up extra first aid and cooling areas) to help fans stay safe in the heat.
