COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The ninth annual Blue Mass will be held Sept. 11 — an event that honors Quad Cities police and first responders — at St. Paul the Apostle in Davenport.  The Dispatch Argus

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local small business leader Tiffany Fraley said the bipartisan Credit Card Competition Act would require banks to offer a second processing option—this change could save Iowa businesses up to $1,200 a year and lower hidden fees for shoppers. Fraley urged leaders like Senator Joni Ernst to support the bill to create fair competition in the credit card market.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A single shot was fired at a home on the 900 block of West Locust Street after a domestic disturbance escalated at 10:24 p.m.—no injuries or property damage were reported—and police continue to investigate the incident.  KWQC
  • A Davenport man, 25-year-old Morgan Miles, was charged with second-degree arson after he set fire to a vehicle valued over $750 on Wednesday, police said.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Coram Deo Academy in Davenport has grown from 12 to over 180 students since opening in 2020 and plans to purchase the former AT&T Call Center at 5348 Elmore Ave to support growth toward 600 students. The school has launched a fundraiser to help raise $3.5 million and is working with the city to rezone the 75,000-square-foot building—plus 33 acres of land—before closing on the deal in late September.  The Quad City Times
  • On August 25, the Davenport Community School District board met at 1702 N. Main St. where it approved numerous personnel changes including new appointments, resignations, and a retirement (with dates ranging from Aug. 18 to Oct. 17). The meeting detailed shifts among certificated staff, additional contract workers, and classified roles.  The Quad City Times
