CRIME NEWS

  • A Davenport man was sentenced to prison for cocaine trafficking—he is also awaiting trial on charges for allegedly receiving about four pounds of meth in Rock Island County.  The Dispatch Argus

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bank of America, Merrill and Bank of America Private Bank cardholders can receive free general admission today and Sunday (Sept. 6-7) at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport and the Science Center of Iowa in Des Moines by presenting a qualifying card and photo ID.  Quad Cities Business Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Members of the Iowa Farmers Union are in Washington to talk with Congress about tariffs that are lowering profits, while John Deere warned that machine sales may drop 15—20% as farmers choose used equipment. Experts said rising costs for steel, aluminum, and copper due to these tariffs could cost the company about $600 million and further hurt local farm income.  KWQC

  • Girls in Aviation Day will be held on September 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Quad Cities International Airport cargo area in Moline, where Ashley Hanson—manager of John Deere Aviation’s Unmanned Aviation Systems—will speak to show girls aged 5 and older the paths available in STEM and aviation careers.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Davenport City Council discussed a campus plan on Wednesday—vote is expected next week to let St. Ambrose begin developing its plans for the coming decade.  The Dispatch Argus

HEALTH NEWS

  • More Quad-Cities parents are not vaccinating their children for school as Iowa and Illinois allow exemptions that require a doctor’s note or a sincerely held belief + exemption rates have jumped 77% in Iowa and 65% in Illinois over the past five years, raising concerns among health experts.  KWQC
  • Iowa cattle farms have seen the Asian long-horned tick carrying a parasite that causes anemia, and affected cattle show signs like fever, difficulty breathing and lethargy. Experts advise trimming pasture vegetation to manage the infestation, and the tick is expected to spread statewide within the next few years — putting pressure on animal health and farm profits.  KWQC
