COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend from September 12 to 14 the Quad Cities will host fun events including Dogtoberfest Friday in Bettendorf at Crow Creek Dog Park, Movies in the Park Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park in Davenport, CribFest in Coal Valley, Fall Food Fest with racing in Davenport, free art programming at the Figge Art Museum, a charity walk in Moline, and celebrations in East Moline, Rock Island and Silvis. Many events are free while some require a fee and offer food, live music and games — check local schedules for times and details.  KWQC
  • Vet Fest 2025 is a celebration for veterans and the community that will be held from 1-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at LeClaire Park and the Bandshell in downtown Davenport — the event features food trucks, foot races including a 9.3-mile ruck march and Kid’s Circuit, vendors and live music with wrestling by Honor Among Wrestling.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Actor Topher Grace will attend a screening of the 1989 film The Big Picture at The Last Picture House in downtown Davenport on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.—he will join filmmakers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods for a post-screening Q&A.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • On Sept. 13, the Silvis Hispanic Heritage Festival will be held on Hero Street from noon to 8 p.m. offering food, music, crafts and a kids’ fun zone. On Sept. 25, Project NOW and the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host a free block party at The Gathering QC in Moline with local vendors, games and food trucks—part of Hispanic Heritage Month.  Quad Cities Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 940 third grade students from 15 Davenport elementary schools are visiting the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds for a free two-day Ag in the Classroom event hosted by the Scott County Farm Bureau and volunteers — they will rotate through eight stations covering topics from beef to garden produce. Teachers and local farmers hope the hands-on learning will spark interest in agriculture and related careers.  KWQC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Quad City community leaders are forming a passenger rail committee to push for the Chicago-to-Moline rail project. Rock Island Board Chair Richard Quinjas Brunk leads the group—which includes officials from Moline and East Moline—and they will begin advocating for the plan immediately.  KWQC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today is World Suicide Prevention Day and advocates are marking the day by urging support for those facing mental health challenges. Later this month, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host the free Quad Cities Out of the Darkness Walk (with check-in at noon and the walk running from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.) at Wharton Field House.  KWQC

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • AAA reminds tailgaters to keep fire and alcohol safety in mind this football season—grills should be placed away from vehicles and tents, and fans must use designated drivers when drinking so gatherings remain safe.  KWQC
