- ➤ Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane warned that drivers must be alert as slow farm equipment moves on roads during harvest season. He said drivers should use extra caution when passing—ensuring the operator sees them—to help avoid crashes as daylight shortens. KWQC
- ➤ Davenport City Council approved a five-year lease for Boozie's Bar and Grill to move into the Freight House at 401 W. River Drive—repairs costing about $74,000 will be completed before the bar takes over on Oct. 1. The council also ratified an emergency demolition contract for the vacant Hiller Building at 314 Gaines St.—the building was declared a public hazard due to severe deterioration. The Quad City Times
- ➤ A remembrance ceremony was held on Sept. 11 at Rock Island Arsenal to mark the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, starting at 8:46 a.m.—the moment the first plane hit the North Tower. - ➤ Davenport City Council approved a five-year lease with Boozie's owners and authorized $74,000 in repairs at the Freight House as the bar moves from its former location to take possession on Oct. 1—promising a fresh start for the space. - ➤ The Iowa Supreme Court will visit Bettendorf next week to hear oral arguments in a Scott County case over whether public defenders must handle overflow criminal cases. - ➤ The Bettendorf City Council held a workshop Tuesday night with city staff and a Baker Tilly advisor to review the city's $141.5 million in bonds and $165 million in total debt—council member Greg Jager voiced concern over the rising debt and urged a relook at spending policies.
