- ➤ QC Veterans Festival hosted its second annual event featuring food trucks+ local vendors, races and a 9.33-mile Rock to Remember hike to honor those lost to 9/11 and suicide while raising awareness for suicide prevention. Organizer Michael Burke said the event drew over 800 people and noted the festival will partner with Uncommon Valor on Nov. 8 for a USMC birthday bash. KWQC
- ➤ Families gathered at Vander Veere Park on Sunday to celebrate five years of Gabe’s Play Village—an inclusive playground where children of all abilities can play together with activities like an Ability Awareness Walk, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and face painting. Event organizer Jennifer Quick said the community raised over $1,000 and will expand programming into local schools next spring to boost inclusion. KWQC

- ➤ Biz Bytes reported that Black Hawk College will hold a ribbon-cutting and open house for its renovated Building 2 on Sept. 20 at 11 a.m.—YWCA Quad Cities is hosting a youth career fair on Sept. 17 and offering free financial literacy classes starting Sept. 16, while Quad City Psychotherapy will have a ribbon-cutting and open house in Davenport on Sept. 18; Per Mar Security also launched a redesigned website to enhance customer support. - ➤ Spanglish Table of the Quad Cities hosted a multicultural potluck on Sunday to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by inviting community members to share traditional dishes and enjoy games and music that highlight diverse cultures—organizer Jose Pavez said the event shows the community’s vibrant heritage. The group will host another event in October with a Halloween theme to explore how different cultures view death. KWQC
