- ➤ River Bend Food Bank is trying to raise $200,000 to purchase one million meals for those in need—funds that will allow it to serve more local residents soon. The Quad City Times

- ➤ The Rock Island Fire Department contained a house fire on the 1600 block of 14th Street made more difficult by a hoarding situation—no injuries were reported and the American Red Cross stressed the need for clear exit paths and working smoke alarms. KWQC

- ➤ LaDrina Wilson launched Overcoming the Odds—a keynote sharing her journey from childhood adversity to success—at the 2024 Women of Influence award gala in Bettendorf. She thanked her husband and family for their support and now offers the presentation on her website to inspire others against hardship. Quad Cities Business Journal

- ➤ The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters will begin their 100 Year Tour at the Mark’s Vibrant Arena on January 7, celebrating a century of basketball thrills and entertainment. Tickets will go on sale on Sept. 22 and the event will showcase signature dunks, new 100 Year jerseys + special fan experiences. Quad Cities Business Journal

- ➤ The Pleasant Valley School Board met Sept. 8 at Belmont Administration Center in Riverdale to accept resignations from food service worker Brooke Boldt, effective Sept. 19, as well as from Peggy Cotton and special education paraeducator Sharvari Deshmukh in August—moves that adjust the district’s staffing. The board also approved employment for part-time custodian Logan Edwards at Pleasant View Elementary, new special education paraeducators, and staff promotions for the 2025-26 school year—changes that will shape next year’s personnel roster. - ➤ Teams of students from eastern Iowa and western Illinois will gather on Sept. 20 at 8 a.m. at the Putnam Museum and Science Center in Davenport to start the FIRST LEGO League Challenge season—participants must pre-register and the free event will run until 12:05 p.m. Quad Cities Business Journal

- ➤ Johnson County Supervisor Jon Green defied Governor Reynolds’s order to lower flags in honor of Charlie Kirk after Kirk was killed at an event at Utah Valley University and said he must stand for his constituents despite risking his job—he noted that a similar tragedy in Minnesota did not lead to lowering flags for a state representative. - ➤ Quad City Area REALTORS announced new officers for 2026 at their annual meeting, selecting Amanda Yeggy of Navigate Realty as president, Justin Landwehr of Current and Keys Realty as president elect, and Jennifer Peters of Ruhl and Ruhl Realtors as secretary/treasurer. The board, including directors from Davenport, Bettendorf and Rock Island, will be officially installed — members are invited to attend on Dec. 3. Quad Cities Business Journal

- ➤ Iowa beat Massachusetts 47—7 on Saturday night—Kirk Ferentz became the Big Ten’s winningest coach with his 206th win as Mark Gronowski threw two touchdown passes and Kaden Wetjen scored twice while a Massachusetts player was injured on a punt return and taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for evaluation.
