COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Greater Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual gala and award celebration on Oct. 17 at the Rhythm City Casino Resort in Davenport. The event—opening at 5:30 p.m.—will feature dinner, entertainment, a silent auction and raffle along with awards for Small Business of the Year and Non-Profit of the Year.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • A candlelight vigil will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Centennial Park to remember lives lost across the U.S. Organizers ask participants to bring a candle or small light — a sign that love outshines violence and hate.  KWQC
  • Dozens of nonprofit leaders met on Sept 18 at Moline Public Library to share challenges and plan ways to handle deep cuts in social services funding. They formed working groups and will launch an online directory next week to help connect local nonprofits with lawmakers.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jerry Seinfeld will perform his newest stand-up routine at the Adler Theatre on January 17 at 8 p.m.—tickets will go on sale September 26 at 10 a.m.  KWQC
  • Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse in Rock Island is presenting the Tony Award-winning musical Come From Away, which tells the story of 7,000 passengers stranded after Sept. 11 and how locals helped them. The musical will run through Nov. 1 with Wednesday shows at 7:30 p.m. (including 1:15 p.m. matinees), Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday shows at 5:30 p.m.—ticket prices are $68 for dinner productions and $61 for Wednesday performances.  Quad Cities Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Davenport will vote next week on a pilot program that awards grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 to food-related businesses on Rockingham Road—an area designated as an urban food desert. The program uses $100,000 in American Rescue Plan interest funds to help struggling businesses invest in marketing and upgrades.  The Quad City Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Timm/Lange family donated new bleachers to the Riverdale Rams football team to honor coach Eric Lange—who died earlier this year in a crash—and to support local youth football. The family will host a memorial clay shoot on October 25 to raise money for gear for underfunded players.  KWQC
