BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Burlington Trailways is set to close offices in eastern and southeastern Iowa including Davenport, Burlington, Cedar Rapids, West Burlington and Des Moines. Dozens of workers will lose their jobs—47 employees in West Burlington will have their last day on October 18 while 5 in Cedar Rapids will be let go. KWQC

- ➤ The Putnam Museum will host its third annual Recycling Fashion Show—Garbage Glam—this Saturday, with appetizers and drinks at 6 p.m. and a 7 p.m. runway show featuring 11 models competing in two categories using garments made with at least 70% recycled materials. KWQC
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Coffee prices have risen to $8.41 per pound due to rough weather and a 50% tariff on Brazilian beans, and coffee shop owner Gina Bettini said her Dunn Bros Coffee will keep prices steady under a one-year contract + she expects no shortage as she prepares for rising costs. A January visit to Guatemala showed her that storm-damaged crops may push production down, which could affect tomorrow's prices. KWQC

- ➤ A new state report card shows Iowa schools have improved attendance and English scores while math scores stayed flat and graduation rates dropped, with nearly 16% of students missing 10 or more school days. At least 23 Quad Cities schools do not meet basic proficiency standards—seven of which are in Davenport, though some local schools rank among the best. KWQC

- ➤ Iowa Congresswoman Ashley Hinson said she is worried about the household food security report's numbers after a private campaign event Monday—she supports a full check of the data used for tracking food access for 30 years. - ➤ ORA Orthopedics will end its 60-year partnership with MercyOne Genesis effective Dec. 18 — stopping its orthopedic emergency and trauma coverage at MercyOne Genesis East in Davenport and MercyOne Genesis Illini in Silvis.
