COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Quad City Animal Welfare Center and the Humane Society of Scott County will host a free vaccine clinic for dogs at St. Anthony’s Church, 417 North Main Street on Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon—vaccines will be given on a first-come, first-served basis with limited supplies.  KWQC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Haunted houses across Quad Cities must pass safety inspections before opening for Halloween. Inspectors in Iowa and Illinois check for fire-retardant materials, working alarms, and clear exits—so visitors can enjoy scares safely.  KWQC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Farmers in eastern Iowa say that crop disease, low prices and tariffs are hurting profits this harvest season as tar spot and southern rust damage crops—despite good yields. The challenges add market uncertainty and may affect local loan opportunities for farmers in the coming year.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Davenport Community School District held its Sept. 8 board meeting at its Main St. office—approving numerous appointments and processing several resignations across certified and classified positions with effective dates in August and early September. The meeting affected roles in special education, para education, and coaching at schools such as Wood Middle, Smart Middle, and North High.  The Dispatch Argus

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Several residents have filed to run for city and school board positions in Scott County—new names will appear on the ballot as election officials said the filings indicate a competitive local race.  The Dispatch Argus

HEALTH NEWS

  • State, city, and county inspectors have found many food safety problems in Iowa since July 24—issues like rodents, flies, old food, and wrong temperatures—at restaurants, schools and stores; a site in Bettendorf is among those that must fix the problems soon.  KWQC
  • ORA Orthopedics announced on Sept. 22 that it will stop providing orthopedic emergency and trauma services at MercyOne Genesis East in Davenport and MercyOne Genesis Illini in Silvis effective Dec. 18—citing a shift in values after MercyOne's transition. MercyOne Genesis said it will expand its orthopedic care to ensure patients receive uninterrupted services during this change.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • Nearly 800 people walked in Moline on Sept. 13 and raised over $100,000 to help fight Alzheimer’s as part of the Quad-Cities Walk to End Alzheimer’s—showing strong local support for the cause.  The Quad City Times

  • The TBK Bank Quad Cities Marathon returns this Sunday with a 26.2-mile race that starts and ends in downtown Moline along the Mississippi River. Bettendorf will have road closures from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.—runners must pick up their packets at Stoney Creek Inn on Saturday.  KWQC
