COMMUNITY NEWS

  • It Takes A Village Animal Rescue changed how it distributes pet supplies after staff reported that donated food was being returned for cash. Starting Monday, people who need help for their pets will volunteer at the shelter—by walking dogs, folding laundry, or cleaning kennels.  KWQC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Happy Joe's Pizza and Ice Cream has added four experienced leaders to its executive team to boost marketing, training, purchasing, and restaurant operations as the chain expands into new markets. CEO Tom Sacco said the new appointments—Abby Rock, Ashley Balluff, Jenny Culp, and Christopher Anschutz—bring decades of expertise to guide future growth.  Quad Cities Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Black Hawk College will host its annual College Night on Oct 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Quad Cities Campus in Moline at 6600 34th Ave inside Building 3, where students, parents and grandparents can meet representatives from colleges, universities and military branches.  Quad Cities Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Roadwork on the 4th Street Resurfacing project will begin on Monday+ closing the road between Pine Street and Thode Court so that drivers must follow a signed detour route. On Tuesday, Phase 3 of the 3rd Street project will start, further affecting downtown traffic.  KWQC
  • Davenport named Tim Gleason as interim city administrator effective November 3, replacing Doug Maxeiner who resigned for health reasons. Gleason brings over 15 years in government management plus 21 years in law enforcement experience while he leads the city during its search for a permanent administrator.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • Karl Swanson, president of PCT Ebeam and Integration in Davenport, testified in Washington, D.C. before the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship on September 17th to support a bill that would double SBA loan limits from $5 million to $10 million for small manufacturers. The measure—co-sponsored by Sen. Joni Ernst and Sen. Chris Coons—is meant to help firms invest in new equipment and hire additional workers.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • MercyOne Genesis experienced a temporary phone system outage Friday morning that caused callers to hear busy signals—but patient appointments continued through the Patient Portal as phone service providers worked to restore service.  KWQC
