- ➤ On Monday, September 29th, the Quad Cities Community Foundation awarded $629,000 in grants to 36 local nonprofits to support community programs — WVIK received $15,000 after federal funding cuts. The grants, ranging from $5,000 to $40,000, will help expand services in areas like housing and childcare. KWQC
- ➤ Hundreds of students and community leaders gathered Monday night at River Bend Food Bank’s Davenport warehouse to launch the 39th Student Hunger Drive as 16 Quad Cities high schools took a six‑week challenge to raise food and funds for neighbors. Moline High School won 2,000 pounds from Hy‑Vee in a skit contest and winners in three categories will be named on November 6 at the Finale Rally — a business match has raised $60,000 toward a $200,000 goal. - ➤ The Quad-City Times printed its last edition on its own press Monday night and starting Tuesday, it will be printed in Munster, Indiana—this move will cut 49 press room jobs, 20 full-time positions, and 29 part-time roles. The change will also shift story deadlines and alter when events are reported. KWQC
- ➤ Greyhound is expanding its Midwest network with two new routes that add stops in the Quad-Cities—service is set to begin soon—and will offer increased travel options. The Quad City Times

- ➤ Local artist Kristin Quinn, a St. Ambrose professor, presents her 'Luminous Flux Paintings From the Watershed' exhibit at the Figge Art Museum’s Gildehaus Gallery (inspired by the Mississippi River watershed) and will be on view until Dec. 28 (sponsored by The Current Iowa and Hotel Blackhawk). - ➤ In the Quad Cities, the unemployment rate stayed at 5.3% in August while nonfarm jobs dropped by 1,700 compared to last year—data shows job losses in business, government, and finance were not fully balanced by gains in other sectors. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Project NOW will begin accepting applications for its Energy Assistance Program on Oct. 1 in Henry, Mercer and Rock Island Counties to help income-qualified households pay natural gas, propane and electric bills and receive furnace assistance—priority groups such as older adults, individuals with disabilities, young children and utility-disconnected households may apply early while other eligible households can start on Nov. 1, with all applications processed on a first-come basis until funding is exhausted or until August 15, 2026. - ➤ Yesterday, crews broke ground on the Gateway Bridge pedestrian project in Bettendorf to provide walkers, runners + bicyclists a safer way to cross Middle Road, connecting the TBK Bank Sports Complex to the Iron Tee. City officials said the project, now estimated to cost about $14.5 million, will be completed by the end of 2026. KWQC

- ➤ Mike Olive, a 74-year-old who has run every Quad Cities Marathon since it began, reached his 100th marathon on Sunday—finishing the race in downtown Moline and joining a group of 11 local runners known as the Interstate Road Warriors.
