- ➤ Jo Nicholson is fostering adoptable dog Rainbow Skittles who came as a stray to the Humane Society of Scott County in June. Rainbow, a friendly two- to three-year-old, is housebroke and crate-trained and calms down after 15 minutes of exercise—ready to find a new home in Davenport. KWQC

- ➤ Iowa-based Shive-Hattery acquired Houston-based Montgomery Roth Architecture & Interior Design on Sept 30 to expand its services in gaming, hospitality and multi-family housing. - ➤ Union officials from AFGE Local 4070 representing Thomson Prison workers met in Washington yesterday to discuss with lawmakers how a government shutdown nearing 24 hours and a cancelled contract with the Bureau of Prisons might delay paychecks—adding to workers’ concerns over already tough conditions. - ➤ The federal government shutdown began Wednesday after lawmakers left Capitol Hill without a deal, leading to thousands of furloughed employees and a pause on many non-essential services (including those at Agriculture, Education and Justice). Essential programs like USPS operations, student loan payments and nutritional assistance for women and children continue amid local concerns over access to food, housing and healthcare. KWQC
- ➤ Davenport aldermen testified under oath that they approved a $1.6M payout to settle allegations by former administrator Corri Spiegel for sexual harassment without reviewing her demand letter—resident Ezra Sidran says the city must be held accountable for delaying its release.
