- ➤ Downtown Davenport will host a spine-tingling stroll for Halloween on Oct. 25 from noon to 3 p.m.—local businesses will offer treats, photo opportunities and festive surprises during the event. Quad Cities Business Journal
- ➤ On Saturday, Oct. 11, the Quad City Federation of Labor will host the 34th annual AFL-CIO Hall of Fame Banquet at the Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf — the event will begin with a 5:30 p.m. social hour and a 6:30 p.m. banquet and will honor union members including James A. Reynolds and posthumously Brian Ripple while social media personality David Knipp serves as the keynote speaker. Quad Cities Business Journal
- ➤ The Freight House Farmers Market in downtown Davenport will host its fifth annual Fall Harvest Festival on Nov. 1—2 at 421 W. River Dr., featuring over 100 small businesses, live music and a petting zoo. The event will run from 10 a.m.—4 p.m. on Nov. 1 and from 10 a.m.—3 p.m. on Nov. 2 to support local farmers, growers and makers. Quad Cities Business Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Aspiring pilots can earn a private pilot license through a new Professional Aeronautics Certificate (PAC) program launched by Quad Cities Aero and Black Hawk College. The program, meant to ease the pilot shortage, will start in 2026 with classes on Wednesday nights from Jan. 21 to May 6 and an open house on Oct. 15 (5:30-7 p.m.) at Quad Cities Aero in Moline. - ➤ The Davenport Compost Facility will mark 30 years of turning yard waste into nutrient-rich compost this weekend with an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors may tour the facility and receive free garden gloves and bags of compost—while supplies last. KWQC
- ➤ A renewable natural gas facility at Scott Area Landfill in Davenport uses WAGABOX technology to capture landfill gas and convert it into renewable natural gas that meets pipeline standards — reducing emissions and feeding the MidAmerican Energy pipeline. The facility, managed by the Waste Commission of Scott County with Linwood Mining and Minerals and Waga Energy, will produce over 205,000 MMBtu of energy annually, roughly equal to 60 GWh, and avoid about 15,800 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions. - ➤ Illinois plans a new Centennial Bridge over the Mississippi River as part of its annual infrastructure plan. The project receives $309 million in funding, with Iowa sharing equally, and construction will begin in 2027. KWQC
- ➤ Illinois’s annual transportation plan allocates $309 million — shared equally with Iowa — to either heavily refurbish or completely rebuild the structurally deficient Centennial Bridge that connects downtown Rock Island with downtown Davenport. KWQC

- ➤ UnityPoint Health PACE Senior Care — Bettendorf is nearing its one-year anniversary after opening in November and doubling enrollment while offering a clinic, day center and therapy gym to help seniors live safely at home in local counties. KWQC
