COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Cancer Support Community Iowa and NW Illinois at Gilda’s Club will host NoogieFest 2025 from 3-5 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Gilda’s Club Davenport — on MercyOne Genesis West Campus at 1351 W. Central Park Ave., Suite 200. Families are encouraged to wear costumes and join in for indoor trick-or-treating, snacks, raffles, entertainment and therapy dogs.  Quad Cities Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Crews began installing a new 400 dock structure at Sunset Marina Tuesday as part of the marina’s recovery from severe weather damage — the work will take two weeks and close the north boat ramp and parking lot so users can plan alternative routes.  KWQC
  • Wallace’s Garden Center in Bettendorf is rebuilding its greenhouse after a May fire destroyed 12,000 square feet of production and growing space so it can offer a more energy efficient design and improved shopping experience. The city and local community have supported the effort, and construction is planned to finish by the end of the year with a full opening by spring.  KWQC

CRIME NEWS

  • Officials from Festival of Trees and Quad City Arts warn vendors about a Messenger scam and say they are not contacting food or craft vendors or asking for application fees over Messenger — they ask people to report any suspicious accounts or emails.  KWQC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marching bands from Assumption, Orion, Moline, Rockridge, United Township and St. Ambrose performed their 2025 programs Monday night at an annual Quad-Cities showcase in Rock Island. The event — held for nearly 20 years — provided a noncompetitive space for the bands to support each other.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Davenport schools improved test scores and saw lower chronic absenteeism in the spring statewide assessment—both the superintendent and Gov. Reynolds praised the progress and noted plans to further support student achievement.  The Dispatch Argus
  • Augustana College will host its annual Fall Open House on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 7-8:30 p.m. at 820 38th St. in Rock Island—featuring a 30-foot dome planetarium show, telescope viewing if weather permits, and hands-on activities at the geology museum with displays like a Tyrannosaurus rex skull and a Cryolophosaurus skeleton.  Quad Cities Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • West Locust Street from Vine to Myrtle is closed today for emergency repairs to a private sewer and water line—city officials said repairs will finish Friday. Drivers must follow a detour via Gaines to Lombard to Marquette or Marquette to 14th to Gaines until repairs are complete.  KWQC
  • Rock Island and Moline have started fall leaf collection programs; in Rock Island, residents must use approved paper yard waste bags placed on regular pickup days until Dec. 4, while Moline will use vacuum trucks and ask residents to rake leaves to the curb until Dec. 12. Residents must follow city guidelines—bags should contain only leaves and leave piles free of debris to protect equipment.  KWQC

  • North Scott’s golfer Jaxon Adkisson finished as state runner up at the Class 4A boys golf state tournament on Oct. 14—Pleasant Valley finished fourth overall in the contest.  KWQC
