  • Halloween is approaching and Davenport police urged drivers to slow down in residential areas while families plan safe trick or treating. The National Safety Council provided tips that include staying in groups, planning routes and keeping costumes visible with reflective tape — advice meant to keep everyone safe.  KWQC
  • On Friday, One Eighty, a Quad Cities non-profit, was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Royal Neighbors of America for expanding its Residential Recovery Program in support of people recovering from sexual abuse, homelessness and addiction. Jenny Halupnik said the grant will fund one-on-one mentoring—expanding resources for both women and their families.  KWQC

  • Fog on Friday morning led to a deadly crash on US 67 in Bettendorf and AAA Iowa advised drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, leave extra distance, and pull over safely if needed—experts warn that cool temperatures and fallen leaves can make roads slippery.  KWQC

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Dr. Brent Ohl Strong Pancreatic Cancer Support and Awareness Organization will hold its 10th Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Tailgate at Eldridge Community Center on Nov. 15 at 11 a.m.—attendees can join the Purple Out Zone, eat a $10 meal with a drink, and enter raffles and a silent auction. Proceeds from the event will help local pancreatic cancer patients through a support fund at Trinity Health Foundation—supporting those within a 75-mile radius.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Two former JUCO teammates now on opposing Big Ten teams will meet in Iowa City as Iowa hosts Minnesota in the Floyd of Rosedale game. Kaden Wetjen (from Williamsburg) and Frank Bierman, who played together at Iowa Western Community College, will face each other for the final time in the rivalry.  KWQC
