Good morning, Davenport. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 4th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The American Federation of Government Employees and the Quad City Federation of labor will host food drives starting Nov. 12 to help furloughed Arsenal workers and others in need. The events will run at three locations in the Quad Cities — Wednesday at the Bridge Point Building in Moline from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday at the River Bend Food Bank in Davenport from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday at the SouthPark Mall location in Moline — to offer set donation times.  KWQC
  • Food assistance has become harder to find after federal SNAP funding stopped Saturday amid a shutdown—local groups and stores are stepping in to help with donations, special meal offers, and extended pantry hours. Residents can use online pantry-finders to locate available services from River Bend Food Bank, the Salvation Army, the YWCA, and others in the area.  KWQC
  • River Bend Food Bank is raising $145,000 to secure up to $145,418 in state matching funds amid SNAP uncertainty—this effort will help the food bank meet its funding requirements.  The Quad City Times
  • On Saturday afternoon, the YWCA Quad Cities held a canned-food drive at its aquatic center where people who donated at least two non-perishable items got free admission. The drive helped fund the Empowerment Center that serves women and families and has seen a fourfold increase in clients amid fears of SNAP benefit cuts.  KWQC
