COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 10th annual #GetUgly5K will run on Saturday, Dec. 6 in downtown LeClaire with the 5K starting at 10 a.m. at the LeClaire Civic Center—the event will also have a Kids Fun Run at 9:30 a.m. and a post-race party to raise funds for local cancer patients with a cap of 600 participants.  KWQC
  • River Bend Food Bank reached its $145,418 goal to earn matching funds from a state program that will buy food for local hunger-relief partners this November as SNAP benefits are cut. Sixteen Quad Cities high schools ended the six-week Student Hunger Drive with food loading held Wednesday and a finale rally scheduled for tonight—officials say more donations are needed to close the gap.  KWQC
  • KWQC will honor local veterans by showing photos that residents send in for Veterans Day — the broadcast will air on Tuesday. Interested locals can submit their photos before then for inclusion in the tribute.  KWQC
  • Pete’s Concessions at the Freight House Farmers Market will offer 'pay what you want' meals on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit the River Bend Food Bank—owner Pete Bednarczyk started the 'Man in the Mirror' fundraiser after losing his Head Start contract due to the government shutdown, and families showing SNAP/EBT or donating nonperishables eat for free.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Davenport-based Russell won the AGC of Missouri Keystone Award for its Lutheran High School South Jubel Center for the Arts project in St. Louis—partnering with Lutheran High School South and Fox Architects to create a new facility with a 626-seat auditorium and a FEMA-rated storm shelter.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 31st Antique Spectacular Vintage Market will be held at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island—running from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The event charges $10 for a full weekend with free parking offered.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Visit Quad Cities has opened applications for the 2026 Patty Viverito Emerging Leader Scholarship, which will award two $1,000 scholarships to eligible female high school seniors from Illinois or Iowa with a minimum 3.0 GPA—applicants must submit a 500-word essay and two recommendation letters by Feb. 15, and winners will be announced in March.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • The Quad Cities Community Foundation has opened over 70 scholarships totaling more than $600k for the 2026 academic year—high school seniors and graduates must apply by Feb. 15 with winners announced in May.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • ImpactLife and UI Health Care AirCare are hosting a blood drive today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the AirCare hangar at Davenport Municipal Airport — donors can learn about emergency blood transfusions and view the AirCare helicopter in person.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • North Scott volleyball advanced to the state championship after beating No.1 Clear Creek Amana in a five-set match, while Assumption volleyball earned its spot by defeating Kuemper Catholic 3-1. Both teams will play in the state championships soon.  KWQC
