COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Communities across the Quad Cities are hosting Veterans Day events to honor local veterans; in Davenport, the parade will march downtown at 10 a.m. today — Hy-Vee offers free breakfast and grocery discounts from 6 to 10 a.m. today. Nearby, schools and community centers in Moline, Bettendorf and Elvira are marking the day with displays, ceremonies and a new art mural.  KWQC
  • Braden Hagen, owner of Motorheads Auto, advises drivers to test their battery, replace wiper blades and top off washer fluid as temperatures drop—he also recommends checking tire pressure and tread depth along with a full vehicle inspection before winter sets in.  KWQC
  • River Bend Food Bank will hold an emergency food distribution today at SouthPark Mall from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.—this effort aims to provide food help to local residents in need.  The Dispatch Argus

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists from Iowa universities signed a statement on Monday saying that rising temperatures and severe weather are making insurance costs go up, and they urged state lawmakers to shift to more renewable energy & updated building standards. They said that these changes may lower future premiums for homeowners and farmers if they are adopted soon.  KWQC

  • Today through November 14, the AAA office in Bettendorf is hosting a TSA PreCheck enrollment event at 2281 Falcon Ave in partnership with IDEMIA from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.+Applicants must bring proof of identity, citizenship documents, fingerprints, and a photo, pay $78, and if approved receive a five-year membership with a Known Traveler Number in three to five days.  Quad Cities Business Journal
