COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities received a $15,000 grant from Bank of America Iowa—local bank employees will volunteer on Nov. 13 to help build a new home at 1402 18th St. in East Moline.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • Thanksgiving events in the Quad Cities offer five local happenings in Davenport including Turkey Olympics at Mini Movement Center on November 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Metal Mayhem Thanksgiving of Terror at Redstone Room on November 21 with doors at 6 p.m., Bends and Brews Friendsgiving at Raccoon Motel on November 23 starting at 12 p.m., the YMCA Turkey Trott outside R. Richard YMCA on November 27 beginning at 7:30 a.m., and PUNCH Free Thanksgiving Day Dinner at First Baptist Church on November 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—other events are in Illinois.  KWQC
  • KWQC-TV6 will host its annual Toys for Tots drive on Dec. 5 at 805 Brady St where the U.S. Marine Corps and volunteers will collect new, unwrapped toys and monetary donations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Toy applicants must verify in person on select days until Nov. 29 (verifications run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.).  KWQC
  • The Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan is showing Cash, an eight-month-old neutered terrier mix with a pattern some call a yin yang face, for adoption as it promotes its annual pet photo calendar fundraiser. Cash knows basic commands and is friendly with children and other dogs—the fundraiser will help cover daily care costs.  KWQC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Davenport-based Lee Enterprises announced on Nov. 10 its plan to raise up to $50 million through an equity rights offering to fund its digital transformation. If the full amount is raised — its interest rate will drop from 9% to 5% for five years and the funds will support working capital and technology investments.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Kings Harvest Pet Rescue warned locals about a Facebook scam that pretends to offer Yorkies and asks for money to hold dogs or pick them up, despite the shelter never collecting fees until a person is there in person. Officials urged people to report suspicious activity plus to call or visit the shelter from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to confirm a dog's presence.  KWQC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Quad Citians will kick off the holiday season on November 19 when Culture Bright Week begins with the 40th annual Festival of Trees turning RiverCenter into a winter wonderland until November 30. The celebration features a black-tie premiere party on November 21, a parade, tree lightings and cookie crawls in downtown areas—uniting the Quad Cities with festive events.  Quad Cities Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • MercyOne Genesis Hospice will host its 20-year tree-lighting on November 17 at 6 p.m. — a cherished event to remember loved ones — outside the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Family and friends will gather for readings, music, and hot chocolate while a shuttle runs from nearby parking and a limited-edition ornament is sold to support hospice care.  KWQC
