COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Visit Quad Cities is celebrating 35 years of tourism with its annual Destination QC event at Rhythm City Casino Resort, where doors open at 3 p.m. and the free event runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.—it will honor community leaders with the Destination Impact and Certified Tourism Ambassador awards.  KWQC
  • Thousands of runners will gather for the 39th Annual YMCA Turkey Trot on Nov. 27 at the R. Richard Bittner YMCA in Davenport. Packet pickup is on Nov. 26—and the event offers a pup parade, kids run, timed 1-mile run, and 5K and 5-mile races that fund local youth programs.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • On Dec. 6, 2025, the 10th Annual #GetUgly5k will bring many runners, walkers, and crawlers to the LeClaire Civic Center for a Grinch-themed Ugly Christmas Sweater 5K and Kids Fun Run—registration is capped at 600 people. The schedule starts with the Kids Fun Run at 9:30 a.m., the National Anthem at 9:55 a.m., and the 5K at 10 a.m., with funds raised supporting local cancer patients.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • At its annual luncheon last week, the Iowa Women’s Foundation awarded $400,000 in grants to 13 organizations to support women and girls across Iowa—three Quad Cities groups were among the recipients, with the Family Resources group from Davenport noted locally. Keynote speaker Anne Nizzi Clark addressed the event, and the foundation has granted $2.3 million to 249 organizations statewide.  Quad Cities Business Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Drivers in Davenport face a higher crash risk as deer become more active during the rut, with the Iowa DNR warning that deer often travel in groups at dawn and dusk. The department advises slowing down on roads and not swerving if a deer steps onto the lane—drivers should brake firmly and keep extra space between vehicles.  KWQC

  • Legat Architects announced Tuesday, Nov. 11 that it acquired Studio 3 Design in Indianapolis to expand into Indiana — a move that brings a new team in Fishers — and strengthens its portfolio in healthcare, hospitality and multi-family projects.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Cirque Musica Holiday Wonderland will return to Adler Theatre on Nov. 28 with breathtaking acrobatic acts, aerial performances, and a festive soundtrack — the production will feature new costumes and acts by artists from around the world.   • Collette’s, a new dueling piano bar at 317 West 3rd Street in downtown Davenport, will open on Nov. 21 — offering interactive dueling piano shows on Fridays and Saturdays, live local music on Thursdays, and private event options.  KWQC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tuesday night, a G-5 strength solar storm produced vivid northern lights seen over the Quad Cities and as far south as Florida—experts expect more light shows to brighten the skies in the coming days.  KWQC

  • Three female athletes from Assumption and United Township signed letters of intent to play Division 1 sports. Ellah Derrer signed with Kansas State for volleyball while Carsyn Kelley joined University of Evansville and United Township's Mea Johnson signed with University of Illinois Chicago to play softball and study biology.  KWQC
  • Sydney Struss—an 18 year old local figure skater from QCA—will compete in the Midwest sectional from November 20 to 21 as she aims to land a triple jump in both programs for her personal best at the senior ladies level.  KWQC
