COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Staff at the YWCA Empowerment Center in Davenport reported that many families recently sought help with food, hygiene items and clothing after the government shutdown. The center also offers programs to help people reach financial stability—serving women, men and children Monday through Friday.  KWQC
  • The annual Quad Cities Fall Success Fair returned to Rock Island on Thursday—helping local veterans, citizens and transitioning military members connect with over 60 employers, resources and educational groups. Business officials said the event offered valuable connections even if attendees did not secure immediate employment.  KWQC
  • The Quad Cities are celebrating the holidays with several events—Home for the Holidays at the Freight House Marketplace in Davenport on Nov. 21-23 and holiday train rides with musical acts in Davenport and Muscatine—and additional festivities across the area.  KWQC
  • Community leader Daisy Moran was honored in October for her advocacy in immigration, housing and education for the Latino community—earning the Sergio Mendoza Advocate of the Year Award. The Mexican-American and Indigenous leader has fought discrimination and raised funds for Latino families during COVID.  KWQC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Stores in Davenport already removed hemp products after a federal funding bill banned items with more than 0.4 milligrams of THC per container. The law will take effect next year and closes a gap in an older rule (local business owners say their customers use these items for pain relief and relaxation).  KWQC
  • Allegiant celebrated 15 years of nonstop service at Quad Cities International Airport—having flown over 1.7 million passengers since 2010. The airline hosted a Facebook giveaway for a chance to win up to $500 on a future flight—marking its growing offer of seasonal service to Sarasota.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Quad Cities will host Culture Bright Week from Nov 19 to Nov 30, featuring events in both Rock Island and Davenport—Rock Island holds a tree lighting and neon forest ribbon cutting, while Davenport hosts a Festival of Trees Premiere Party at the RiverCenter and a parade with a live concert on Nov 22. Local organizers celebrate 40 years of community art and creativity during this season.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • The RiverCenter, Adler Theatre and USA Entertainment Agency announced a new comedy series called Laugh QC that will start on Dec. 11th at Mississippi Hall and run through April. Six acts are set—featuring comedians from Steve Hytner to Jackie Fabulous—while tickets starting at $26 are sold in tables of four or six.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Visit Quad Cities is celebrating 35 years of promoting local tourism — the organization announced that the area generated more than $1.38 billion in visitor spending in 2024 — marking a major milestone that underscores the region's economic strength.  The Quad City Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Pritzker’s transportation plan allocates $338.8 million for rail service between Moline and Chicago, while Illinois has approved $425 million but Iowa still must finalize its funding to extend the network. Former Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told local business leaders at a Quad Cities symposium that quick community action is needed—support is key to completing the project before the law takes effect in June 2026.  Quad Cities Business Journal
