  • For 37 years, Davenport Police have served Thanksgiving dinner to clients of Empower Abilities, marking a longstanding community tradition.  The Quad City Times
  • Deck the Downtowns, a joint holiday promotion by local downtown organizations in Bettendorf, Davenport, and Rock Island, begins tonight and will run through the new year. The event features tree lightings, ornament hunts, a cookie crawl plus a holiday display competition that invites locals to explore seasonal fun.  Quad Cities Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The family-run Park View Cafe in Eldridge has built a warm atmosphere since opening a couple of months ago and will serve a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal for $9.99 or $10.99 with dessert and a drink. Owner Yamile Vargas said she treats each new face like family—an approach inspired by her father’s years in the restaurant business.  KWQC

  • NBC aired the first part of the movie Wicked on KWQC at 7 p.m. last night—this move delayed the 10 p.m. news to 10:30 p.m., and the sequel will open in theaters Friday.  KWQC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Col. Shawn Creamer has been named joint executive director of the Rock Island Arsenal Defense Alliance and the Quad Cities Manufacturing Institute after his appointment was announced Nov. 18. He plans to use his 30 years of Army experience to boost advanced manufacturing and defense in the region—promising growth and new jobs.  Quad Cities Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • On November 12th, Dr. Mark Shen performed Iowa's first heart surgery using a revolutionary system to treat atrial fibrillation, marking a major advance in patient care.  The Dispatch Argus
  • UnityPoint Health will honor hospice patients and their families this holiday season with its Project Peace Tree program that accepts donations to engrave names on custom glass ornaments for display at its Quad Cities campuses before delivering them to donors. Donations must be made by Dec. 5 as the project continues the hospital's mission to care for patients in their final stages of life.  KWQC

  • The 11th annual Iowa vs Illinois senior All-Star volleyball game — featuring many local players from both sides of the river — will be held Monday at Beyond the Baseline at 7 p.m. Teams from both states will compete in this longstanding event.  KWQC
