  • National Adoption Day brought Quad Cities Area families together at the Rock Island County Juvenile Justice Center — officials said the event marked a new beginning for children as formal adoptions created forever families. The celebration showed how the court turned case closures into bonds of love and stability.  KWQC
  • Honor Flight of the Quad Cities announced it will now accept applications from any veteran within 75 miles of the area who served before December 1990—veterans can apply to be honored for their service.  The Dispatch Argus
  • The Davenport Noon Optimist Club opened its Christmas tree sale today at Brady Street Stadium, continuing a more than 70-year tradition that supports over 40 youth charities and raises about $20,000. Trees shipped from northern Michigan, ranging from 5 to 11 feet and priced from $50, will be available today and on select future dates—customers have set hours for each sale period.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • Staff and volunteers at the Martin Luther King Center in Rock Island are distributing meals for a Thanksgiving feast this weekend—expecting to give away 8,000 meals to aid families in need. Curbside pickup is available today from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. with additional locations in Davenport and Milan while a sit-down meal will be held at the center starting at noon on Sunday.  KWQC

  • The Winter Nights, Winter Lights display opened Friday at the gardens (2525 4th Avenue) with a lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. and will run through Dec 31 (featuring over 315,000 lights and a new Culture Bright Neon Forest).  KWQC

FINANCE NEWS

  • QCR Holdings, the parent of Quad City Bank & Trust, declared a cash dividend of 6 cents per share on November 19 and stockholders on record on December 23 will receive the payment on January 7—its board approved the dividend.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Iowa Attorney General Bird warned Iowans on November 21 to watch for scams during the holiday season as sales events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday approach - she urged shoppers to double-check websites, emails, and gift card offers to protect their personal details.  Quad Cities Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Better Health Foundation announced capacity building and service support grants totaling $1 million to 19 local nonprofits, bringing its total awards since 2023 to over $5.3 million. The foundation's next round of Innovation grants—Letters of Inquiry (LOI) set to open on Jan. 15—will support mental and behavioral health, maternal and child health, and obesity and diabetes prevention.  Quad Cities Business Journal
