COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Patti McRae from the Quad City Animal Welfare Center introduced Butterscotch, a 4-month-old pet available for adoption along with her sister. Both are spayed, microchipped and updated on vaccines, and the shelter partners with Hy-Vee in Milan and Moline where decorated trees display donation needs. KWQC
- ➤ River Bend Food Bank in Davenport received a $25,000 donation from Bears Care that was doubled by a matching gift from the QC Community Foundation to provide about 250,000 meals. The donation was announced ahead of the Bears’ Nov. 28 game during the holiday season. Quad Cities Business Journal
- ➤ The Quad City Disability Awareness Coalition organized a food drive for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service that collected food for 11 local pantries in the region. The drive, supported by the United Way of the Quad Cities and the Quad Cities Community Foundation, helped 530 families. Quad Cities Business Journal
- ➤ The Quad Cities Community Foundation awarded $300,000 to the Quad Cities Housing Council, which will use the funds to refurbish or build 25 units in Davenport's Central Community Circle neighborhood. The Quad City Times
- ➤ A deer was safely removed from a Menards store on Monday after it ran into the building in Moline — a store manager said this was not the first time a deer had wandered in as customers helped carry the animal out. KWQC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City leaders voted to close the Eldridge Community Center and Skatepark due to rising costs & liability concerns and structural issues, impacting the Quad City Rollers and community groups. Officials will meet on Jan. 12 to set a timeline and address next steps. KWQC
- ➤ Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed a bill Tuesday that secured $475 million for the Chicago to Quad Cities Passenger Rail project (officials say the project is expected to add about $30 million annually to the local economy). KWQC

- ➤ Family Resources is hosting a grief support event Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at (4020 Hickory Grove Road) in Davenport, where residents can honor lost loved ones by making ornaments and sharing memories during the holidays. KWQC
- ➤ Gilda’s Club experienced a 45% rise in people served as cancer cases increase, and it now needs donations to keep offering free support groups, exercise classes, and nutrition programs for those battling cancer. Quad Cities Business Journal
