- ➤ O’Rourke Sales Company employees raised $5,000 for Toys for Tots (Marine Corps program) with matching contributions from the owners. They spent $11,965 buying 750 new toys to ensure hundreds of local children have gifts to open on Christmas morning. KWQC
- ➤ 16-year-old Brayden Mildren transformed his west Davenport yard into a winter wonderland featuring a giant Santa (on North Utah Ave near 9th and Idaho) to collect Lego donations for the Iowa City Children’s Autism Group at Stead Hospital; donations will be accepted through year’s end. KWQC
- ➤ At Quad Cities International Airport, employees decorated holiday trees (using items from their workspaces) to celebrate the season and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies as the winter travel rush approaches. KWQC
- ➤ South of downtown, the Skybridge now features a $408,000 lighting upgrade with more intense colors & programmable shows that begin 30 minutes before sunset. The installation, completed Dec. 17 by the City of Davenport as part of the Destination Iowa grant, enhances the riverfront connection for visitors. Quad Cities Business Journal

- ➤ Rock Island Brewing Company reopens today with doors opening at 6 p.m. & live music starting at 8 p.m. as owner Zachary Edwards reintroduces the historic venue to the Quad Cities after nearly two years of closure. KWQC

- ➤ St. Ambrose University has named four senior leaders and expanded a longtime administrator's role to support its merger with Mount Mercy University. The appointments, including a chief mission integration officer set to start Feb. 1, will boost academic support and shared operations for students. Quad Cities Business Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Department of Defense bill passed this week expands manufacturing and research at Rock Island Arsenal, the Quad-Cities’ largest employer. The legislation also provides up to $50 million for a childcare center and sets conditions for Congress to review potential job cuts. KWQC
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ UnityPoint Health - Trinity BirthPlace Bettendorf and Moline announced the top baby names of 2025 from over 1,400 births so far and offer virtual tours of their locations. Both facilities were recognized as Blue Distinction Centers for Maternity Care. KWQC
- ➤ The Scott County Health Department reported more than 40 whooping cough (pertussis) cases so far this month and urges residents to check vaccination records. Local health officials are closely monitoring the situation in Davenport. KWQC
