COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ AAA offers a free Tow to Go service as a holiday safety net that gives rides and tows within a 10 mile radius in Iowa from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Jan. 2. The service is available to both AAA members + nonmembers and should only be used as a last resort. KWQC
- ➤ Snowstar has brought joy for nearly 45 years to Quad Cities visitors. General manager Rod Letherman said warming weather may melt the snow by next week — staff work eight-hour shifts in sub-zero conditions to keep the slopes ready for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. KWQC
- ➤ The Landing Ice Rink in Bettendorf will change hours during Holiday Break through Jan. 4, opening Sunday–Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with reduced hours of noon to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (per Bettendorf’s website). KWQC

- ➤ Local boutiques in LeClaire saw a boost in last-minute holiday shopping as residents looked for special gifts not found at larger stores & some shops offered promotions to keep business strong. Store owners reported higher sales despite tariff challenges and delayed shipments. KWQC
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Waste Commission of Scott County shared holiday recycling tips, detailing which items such as plain wrapping paper and cardboard are recyclable and which like glittered paper should not be. Residents can drop off e-waste and cooking oil at designated sites on Carey Avenue during set hours. KWQC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Two wounded National Guard soldiers injured in an attack in Syria returned to the U.S. on Saturday and are now stable at a military facility (their families are with them as they start recovery) while a third soldier treated in Syria is back at work. KWQC

- ➤ Over 100 local donors gave blood at Bettendorf High School on Saturday during the Give Like Charly Blood Drive, honoring graduate Charly Erpelding, who died of bone cancer in 2022 — her mother said the event boosts supplies during a low blood donation week. KWQC
