COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The River Bandits and GreenState Credit Union will offer free admission for the Tuesday, May 13, 6:30 p.m. game at Modern Woodmen Park to thank fans for the park’s recent USA Today Readers’ Choice Award win—tickets can be picked up at the box office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. The game will also offer a free pennant to the first 500 fans and $2 hot dogs and sodas, with all amusement rides opening as part of the event—adding extra fun for families.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • YouthHope, a faith-based group that helps at-risk youth, moved into Davenport last year at 306 Cedar St. This summer the organization will launch a fundraising campaign to build a new gym and upgrade its West End center to better serve local kids.  The Dispatch Argus

  • Karlee Cleary launched Brady Street Blends at 423 Brady St in downtown Davenport today, offering local customers a variety of healthy energy drinks—lit teas, shakes, protein coffee—and food.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Devon Braet and Adriana Blake, charged with murder, arson, and corpse abuse for killing two people at an apartment on Division Street in January 2024, saw their trial begin after jury selection finished Tuesday—while a third person admitted to helping them was sentenced to two years probation.  KWQC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Davenport council will review new communication guidelines that require members to copy the city administrator on emails and give 48 hours notice before raising agenda questions — the proposal follows concerns about unequal access to information raised by council members and accompanies open meetings training on state transparency laws. Council members will offer feedback within 30 days for final council discussion and possible resolution.  The Quad City Times
