  • Patriot River Fest returns to the LeClaire levee and riverfront on Saturday as families can join a kids fishing derby with free donuts at 7 a.m., then enjoy fishing, weight-ins, live music and a beer tent — free will donations are accepted at the gate and leashed pets receive refreshments.  KWQC
  • Starting today through the end of the month, QCAWC is offering half-off adoption fees for all cats & kittens to help residents find a new pet. The center will also hold its Mobile Vaccine Clinic at Silvis Public Library on Friday, June 20 from 12 to 2 p.m. where pets can get affordable vaccines.  OurQuadCities
  • The American Red Cross will host the 30th annual A Taste on the River today at 6 p.m. at the Bend XPO Center in East Moline to support efforts to help families stay safe from home fires, and the event will feature food from local vendors, live music from The Yoyos & a silent auction with $50 general admission.  KWQC

  • In May, the SBA awarded loans totaling over $3.26M to five Scott County companies including Bishop Enterprises, Beauty Bar Aesthetic & Wellness PLLC, Exline Signs and Things LLC, Vitality Physical Medicine, and Abrahams Machine Service in Davenport.   • Small Town Pastry Cafe celebrated its fifth anniversary on Monday morning, June 9 in Bettendorf as owner Diana Yazigi held a platter of chocolate croissants for loyal fans—many of whom praise the cafe on Facebook for its mix of breakfast, lunch and dessert options. CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested Tashon J. Bea, 21, in Rock Island on Monday — the second arrest in the homicide investigation — and charged him with first-degree murder, felony intimidation with a dangerous weapon and going armed with intent after crews found Douglas C. Meier, 28, fatally wounded at the 1700 block of Gaines Street over the weekend.  KWQC
  • Davenport police arrested Justin N. Joway, 29, early Tuesday after he threw rocks that broke the front doors and windows at the Rock Island Police Department and shattered a window at Hotel Blackhawk, and he now faces charges for felony criminal mischief and interference with official acts.  KWQC

  • Former Davenport alderwoman Judith Lee launched her campaign for mayor on June 10 after serving as the 8th Ward alderperson for four years & joining Quad Cities Today to share her plans. Jason Gordon also announced his bid earlier this year.  KWQC

SPORTS NEWS

  • East Moline’s July 4th Firecracker Run will offer free John Deere Classic tickets to runners who complete the 5K or 10K and to about 150 volunteers—adding a new way to draw community interest ahead of the PGA Tour event from July 2 to 6 at TPC Deere Run with an $8.4 million purse.  Quad Cities Business Journal
