Healthy Kids Iowa—state’s new summer food program—has shifted operations at River Bend Food Bank so that volunteers now spend their time packing $40 food boxes for eligible families instead of sorting donations.
Approved in early May amid rising food insecurity, the program has distributed 2,500 boxes in June and 3,100 in July and plans to pack about 3,500 boxes in August.
Boozie’s Bar & Grill in downtown Davenport will close after this weekend for up to six months for building repairs, as noted on social media.
Managers are exploring options for a temporary kitchen to continue meal service during repairs.
A mom with her daughters has opened a new soul food restaurant called Soul Ties at 118 Fourth St in downtown Davenport.
