The Davenport Compost Facility will mark 30 years of turning yard waste into nutrient-rich compost this weekend with an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors may tour the facility and receive free garden gloves and bags of compost—while supplies last.
A renewable natural gas facility at Scott Area Landfill in Davenport uses WAGABOX technology to capture landfill gas and convert it into renewable natural gas that meets pipeline standards — reducing emissions and feeding the MidAmerican Energy pipeline.
The facility, managed by the Waste Commission of Scott County with Linwood Mining and Minerals and Waga Energy, will produce over 205,000 MMBtu of energy annually, roughly equal to 60 GWh, and avoid about 15,800 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions.
